Flights Resume at Scotland's Busiest Airport Following Substantial Air Traffic Control Outage
Air travel have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport following a major ATC system failure grounded all flights.
All aircraft movements were halted because of an IT issue that arose around 08:30.
Some passengers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway during the disruption.
Operations Restart with Residual Impact
The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
However, ongoing issues are anticipated to continue throughout the day. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with numerous other services subject to postponements.
An airport representative had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.
"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.
Root of the Disruption
The airport attributed the widespread suspension to an systems failure with its air traffic control provider.
Passengers are still being urged to check the status of their trip before departing to the airport as backlogs are managed.
